2022 Maverick vs. Santa Cruz

2022 Ford Maverick vs Santa Cruz

2022 Ford Maverick VS. Hyundai Santa Cruz

Ford has always been a step ahead when it comes to knowing what consumers want. From the introduction of the first American-made truck to the release of the first all-electric truck, Ford is the innovator of all things truck-related. So, when buyers began looking for a smaller, more economical truck option, it was time for the Maverick to be reintroduced. Currently, the only other similar vehicle is the Santa Cruz, but it is clearly not a Ford truck. Visit Griffith Ford San Marcos, a short drive from Austin and San Antonio, to learn more about the new Maverick.

Size And Capacity

The 2022 Maverick is offered as a crew cab with seating for 5. The bed measures 4.5 feet with the tailgate closed and offers tie-down points on the tailgate to function as a bed extender. The Santa Cruz is also a five-seater, but the box is only 4.3 feet in length and has a shorter wheelbase than the Maverick. But both offer a 110-volt outlet in the bed for added entertainment or functionality operating tools or lights when parked.

The Power And Efficiency

Both trucks offer two choices for the engine. The Maverick choices include a hybrid 2.5 liter 4-cylinder that delivers 162 horsepower with a 94-kilowatt electric motor and battery pack. The all gas version includes a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder that puts out 250 horsepower. An 8-speed transmission is standard with both platforms. The Santa Cruz also offers two engine choices, with the first being a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder that delivers 191 horsepower. The second is a turbocharged 2.5-liter with 281 horsepower. While Ford does not win the horsepower challenge, it does offer far more fuel efficiency, with the hybrid earning a 40 mpg estimate to top the 23 mpg for the Santa Cruz.

Safety Technology

The Ford Maverick includes the advanced driving assistance system on the full line of trucks. When you move up to the Lariat, you have access to the Level 2 semi-autonomous driving package, including adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and evasive steering. The Santa Crus offers similar safety features but only moves to the Level 2 features for the Limited model, which is at the top of the price scale.

Coming Down To The Most Important Number

Price is going to be the deciding factor for many small truck buyers. And in this category, the Ford Maverick has no competition. The trim levels on the Maverick include the XL, XLT, and Lariat. There is also an FX4 package that can be added to the XLT and Lariat models. The price range begins at $19,995 for the base model and tops out at $25,490 for a loaded top-end Maverick. The Santa Cruz trims are the SE, SEL, SEL Premium, and Limited. The base price starts at $23,990 and skyrockets to $39,720 for a loaded model. With no substantial features unique to the Santa Cruz, the price difference is somewhat disproportionate.
