F-Series History

The Ford Company takes a great deal of pride in its F-Series line of trucks. Even though the F-Series was not born until the late 1940s, Ford gave birth to American-made trucks in 1917 with the Model T. By 1928, Ford delivered 1.3 million of the updated Model TT. And it has been building the most well-loved and purchased trucks in the country ever since.

Meet The 90s F-Series

By the 1990s, Ford understood that pickup trucks were ready to move into the realm of family vehicles rather than just purpose-built work vehicles. And the best way to grab a buyer's eye is with a limited edition. The Nite Edition was that ultra-desirable four-wheel-drive XLT Lariat with a 5.0 liter V-8 offered only in black. The SVT Lightning made its debut in 1993 to takes its place as the first Sport Truck to wear the Ford badge. Now trucks were being purpose-built for something other than work. The Lighting was only built as a short box single cab, but it delivered fun with a 240 horsepower 5.8 liter V-8.

A Dozen Generations Of Ford Tough

In 2004, the focus was on delivering more comfort in a lush and more spacious cab. The addition of the super cab made the F-Series an ideal blend with the capability of a truck but the passenger space more associated with an SUV. The lines of the 12th Gen followed the trend set by the new Super-Duty facelift with smooth lines and a rugged appearance. Buyers also found the twin-turbo 3.5 liter eco-boost engine an exciting option. In 2009, the world was introduced to the Raptor. This beast's claim to fame was that it came from the factory ready to head off-road. And that truck did not disappoint a single buyer! It was agile, durable, and sounded amazing.

New And Still Improving

In 2015, Ford introduced another innovation with a mostly aluminum body. And they took much criticism until it became the first truck to earn a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA. That same year, we got a glimpse of Raptor 2.0 that put out 510 horsepower with a twin-turbo eco-boost V-6 and owned the road and trails.

Modern Day F-Series Trucks

As of 2021, the F-150 remains still tops the list as the best-selling truck in the country. Part of the success is due to the long history, and part can be attributed to cutting-edge innovation. Offering a truck that can adapt to a mobile office has won over many truck owners. And throw in a 12-inch touchscreen command center, and you can't ask for anymore.

The New F-150 Lightning

The Lighting name has been reinvented to meet the needs of current truck owners. It is the first all-electric truck, and it will set the bar for all to follow. The extended range battery will put down 563 horsepower, with a max towing capacity of 10k pounds and an estimated range of 300 miles. The Lightning is the truck of the future.
